Siva Reddy, Core Academic Member at Mila, has received the prestigious 2026 Sloan Research Fellowship, awarded annually to the most promising scientific researchers. An expert in natural language processing and machine learning, Siva Reddy is one of three Canadian recipients among the 126 fellows selected across Canada and the US this year.
“I am truly honored to receive the Sloan Fellowship. It is an excellent recognition of my group's work in pushing fundamental ideas in natural language processing and machine learning. Our contributions have not only advanced the abilities of large language models but have also made them safer. As these models become more agentic, we continue to work toward making them even safer, more transparent, and more efficient. I am grateful to my colleagues at McGill, Mila, and ServiceNow for fostering an intellectually stimulating environment and providing the resources needed to succeed,” said Siva Reddy.
Funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the fellowship provides $75,000 USD over two years to support the fellows' cutting-edge research. An Assistant Professor at the School of Computer Science and in the Department of Linguistics at McGill University and a Canada-CIFAR AI Chair, Siva Reddy’s research aims to endow machines with advanced linguistic reasoning capabilities, enabling them to converse and perform tasks akin to human interactions. A major focus of his work is making these systems safer by aligning them with human values.
