Canada produces some of the world’s most important AI research. What turns research strength into companies is our connective tissue: these events are where researchers, founders, and capital meet. It is where ambition finds its allies. Our Signature Events provide the infrastructure to propel Venture Scientists and their companies.

We host a handful of high-calibre gatherings each year, convened at the Agora — our event space at Mila in Montreal. Each event is curated and evolving: they are an invitation to meet in real life and close the gap between research discoveries and what gets built in Canada.

Past Events

  • Venture Scientist Demo Day — 1st Edition: The first Venture Scientist Demo Day set the stage for the mission and the four programs offered by Mila Ventures. The event featured 18 founders, who pitched their startups. The $100M Venture Scientist Fund was announced and three fireside chats featured Mila alumni Liam Fedus (Periodic Labs, co-creator of ChatGPT), Zuzanna Stamirowska (Pathway), and Mila alumni Athul Paul Jacob (Percepta).
  • Build OS26 - Ship or Fall Behind: A hackathon with twenty-six builders and five hours to ship a working agentic system. The winners demoed what they built in front of a jury. Build OS26 turned the Agora into a proving ground for agentic workflows — startups building and operating real systems under time pressure.  The event ended with the ecosystem raising a glass to the teams who shipped against time pressures. Mila Ventures organized $45K in cash and in-kind support from sponsors to the winners: Carbon Forge (Best Trustworthy Agentic System), Cognate Labs (Best Defensible System), and Bastion (Best Quantifiable Impact).
  • AI for Hardware, Chips & Robotics: This event shed light on the material aspects of AI. NVIDIA Canada opened the day; Eclipse Capital’s Aidan Madigan-Curtis, who helped launch the first Apple Watch, was a headliner. Founders, investors, and Mila core members charted Canada’s deep-tech edge, from chip design to the next frontier of robotics.
  • Rise of the Venture Scientist: The inaugural edition of the Venture Scientist Event Series. An afternoon uniting Canada’s leading AI researchers, founders, and investors. The event included a masterclass with Joëlle Pineau, Chief AI Officer, Cohere.
