MONTREAL, May 1st, 2026 – Mila – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute is pleased to announce a new strategic research partnership with AlayaCare, a leading provider of cloud-based home and community care solutions. This collaboration aims to advance the development of robust, clinically reliable agentic AI systems for home care—combining rigorous evaluation methods with approaches that ensure these systems remain safe and effective as the environments they operate in evolve.
Agentic AI—systems capable of autonomously executing multi-step workflows—is advancing rapidly across industries, but the clinical domain demands a fundamentally higher bar for safety and reliability. As the home care industry manages an increasingly complex care lifecycle, AI systems must not only perform reliably at the point of deployment but continue to meet clinical standards as care environments, patient populations, and operational contexts change. Building agentic systems that can adapt to shifting real-world conditions while maintaining accuracy and safety is one of the defining challenges of deploying AI in healthcare.
The partnership brings together Mila's research expertise in AI with AlayaCare's applied AI capabilities and deep knowledge of home care operations to tackle a shared challenge: building agentic AI systems that are robust enough for clinical use and that remain so over time. Together, both teams will work to develop methodologies for evaluating these systems against established safety and reliability standards—not only at the point of deployment, but as they co-evolve alongside the clinical environments and care workflows they support.
“At AlayaCare, we have spent years building AI and machine learning capabilities alongside our deep understanding of home care operations,” said Adrian Schauer, Founder and CEO at AlayaCare. “We know that deploying AI in healthcare requires more than promising technology—it requires systems that are robust enough to perform reliably today and continue to improve as the environments they operate in change. Our work with Mila is a critical step in ensuring the agentic AI systems we build for care providers meet that standard.”
"Advancing AI in healthcare requires evaluation frameworks that are grounded in the realities of care delivery, not just theoretical benchmarks," said Stéphane Létourneau, Executive Vice-President of Mila. "Agentic AI is still an emerging technology, and in a field as sensitive and dynamic as healthcare, the foundational work of understanding how to evaluate these systems is just beginning. Together with AlayaCare, a recognized leader in the home care sector, we are uniquely positioned to explore and lay the groundwork for the evaluation frameworks this technology will demand."
