Mélisande Teng

PhD student, Student Ph.D.

I am a fourth-year PhD co-supervised by Prof. Yoshua Bengio, Prof. Hugo Larochelle, and Prof. David Rolnick and I am interested in applications for AI to tackle the biodiversity and climate crises.

Prior to that, I was a Visiting Research Intern in the Climate Change AI team, supervised by Prof. Yoshua Bengio and Dr. Sasha Luccioni for a year.

We are building an educational tool to raise awareness on climate change so that people can visualize its impact. We aim at showing how houses could look like by 2050  under the effect of climate change, with an emphasis on flood events.

My current research focuses on species distributions modelling with citizen science and remote sensing data.

I earned a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Computer Vision and Machine Learning (MVA) from Ecole Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay, and also completed a double degree (MSc in Engineering and Applied Mathematics / MSc in Management and Social Entrepreneurship) at Ecole Centrale Paris and ESSEC Business School.

I am passionate about using artificial intelligence as a tool to tackle societal challenges and was a 2018 Data Science for Social Good fellow and a 2019 Voting Rights Data Institute fellow.
