In a world where AI is advancing rapidly and permeating every aspect of our societies, it has become essential for policymakers in all sectors to gain a deep understanding of the profound implications and complexities of this transformative technology.
This program aims to provide participants with a fundamental understanding of AI technology, including an audit of current and emerging applications, as well as an exploration of associated risks and transformative opportunities in various fields. In addition, it provides an overview of the latest legal and regulatory approaches to AI around the world, equipping participants with the essential understanding required to shape the future of AI governance.
Leaders and policy professionals from various sectors, including all levels of government (federal, provincial, and municipal), as well as the private, academic, and non-profit sectors, who are engaged in the development of AI governance and policy initiatives within their respective fields and sectors, are encouraged to attend.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with renowned AI experts and connect with peers who are encountering similar experiences and challenges. The program places special emphasis on real-world use cases and practical tools to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
At the end of the program, participants will:
Connect with peers facing similar AI governance challenges, continuing to engage with the alumni network fostered by Mila/PPF.
Use an analytical framework for AI policy decisions, continuing to apply it beyond the course.
Apply their understanding of AI technology, its applications, implications and policy responses to their work.
Access the latest AI-related resources and actively stay informed about AI policy developments.
Demonstrate confidence as AI policy leaders, recognized as champions within their organizations.
Teaching Method
This program empowers decision-makers and policy professionals by providing a comprehensive understanding of AI technology, its applications, implications, and governance considerations. Following the 3 Cs approach—Case Studies, Code, and Capstones—learners will engage with relatable case studies, explore actual code, and apply their knowledge in capstone projects. These projects may take various formats, such as written submissions, facilitated discussions, or presentations.
The program is suitable for learners from diverse backgrounds, with no prior programming experience required. Through frameworks, facilitated discussions, and exposure to real AI models and use cases, the program emphasizes leadership and decision-making in an AI-enabled world.
