Increasing artificial intelligence (AI) awareness, literacy and capacity.
Every new technology comes with a steep learning curve, and AI is no exception. Given that little attention has been given to ethics, legal issues or governance in the education of AI researchers and industry professionals so far, Mila has developed a series of programs to help bridge this gap.
One of Mila’s primary aims is to develop comprehensive educational programming for its target audiences, which include researchers, industry representatives, historically marginalized groups and policy-makers. Mila’s learning programs actively help increase responsible AI awareness, literacy and capacity across all sectors.
Women, transgender, and non-binary individuals are underrepresented at all levels within the AI industry, particularly when it comes to leadership. The AI4Good Lab is a seven-week program introducing these traditionally underserved groups to machine learning, while emphasizing mentorship and curiosity-driven discovery.
AI Advantage is a synchronous online workshop offered in partnership with the Public Policy Forum (PPF). Through skills-focused lessons, interactive assignments, and personalized feedback, participants will learn how to leverage generative AI to support and enhance their workplace productivity.
The rapid advance of AI within every aspect of modern life has made it essential that policy-makers in all sectors understand the potential impact and complexity of this transformative technology. This program — a joint initiative of Mila and the Public Policy Forum (PPF) Academy — provides participants with a basic understanding of AI, including current and emerging applications, as well as their risks and opportunities.
Developed for the Canada School of Public Service, this speaker series gives public servants and policy-makers insights into AI technology, its regulation, and how it can be used to serve Canadians everywhere. Professors and staff from Mila share interesting and promising AI developments, while also highlighting potential risks.
Delivered in partnership with Indspire, Indigenous Pathfinders in AI is a career pathway program designed to engage Indigenous talent to learn, develop and lead the evolution of AI, shaping a future marked by their contributions.
A joint initiative of Mila and the Université de Montréal, this program examines issues ranging from AI governance to its human impact, providing students with actionable knowledge, a new professional network, and the leadership skills they need to advocate for responsible AI within their own communities and beyond.
Mila’s trustworthy and responsible AI learning (TRAIL) program is designed to provide participants with the foundational knowledge, skills and tools to responsibly design and deliver their AI projects.
Designed at Mila for our research community, the Trustworthy and Responsible AI Learning (TRAIL) certificate is a 12-hour synchronous training program for ML researchers.
