Montreal, March 22, 2023 - Mila – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, is proud to announce the 21 recipients of its Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Scholarships Program. Fifteen members of our community received scholarships in our program’s first category, Women in AI, and another six researchers received excellence scholarships in the second category, EDI in Research.

The categories offer scholarships of $8,000 per year for PhD students and $5,000 per year for Masters students.

In December 2022, Mila launched its new EDI Scholarships Program, an initiative that offers increased financial support in order to foster talent development in groups historically underrepresented in the AI ecosystem, and encourage the application of the values of equity, diversity and inclusion in AI research. The window for applications for the first competition in categories 1 and 2 of the program closed on February 15, 2023. The program’s third category, directed at socioeconomic diversity, is open on a continuous basis all year long.

“We want to align these values that define us with a culture of excellence that is inclusive to all. We therefore need to target inequities and foster opportunities for people in the underrepresented groups in our community,” said Mila President and CEO Valérie Pisano.
