Montreal, Quebec, July 2, 2025 — Seoul AI Hub is strengthening its partnership with Mila – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute through the continued rollout of the Scientist-in-Residence Program, an initiative that connects Korean AI startups with world-class researchers in Canada. Following the success of last year’s pilot cohort, seven new startups have joined the 2025 program to pursue joint research with Mila, addressing real-world technological challenges in collaboration with leading experts.
The participating startups span a wide range of AI application areas, including AI-assisted software development, robotic control in manufacturing, multimodal behavior analysis, and sales conversation analytics. Through this collaboration, the companies receive advanced technical mentorship while also gaining exposure to the North American AI ecosystem and global market opportunities.
“Mila has an outstanding pool of AI researchers, which has made it easy to match them with startups across diverse technical domains,” said Mr. Park, Director of Seoul AI Hub. “Thanks to Mila’s strong support, the research projects are progressing smoothly. We sincerely thank Mila for their ongoing collaboration and look forward to building an even deeper partnership based on mutual trust.”
“While the program is centered on joint research, we view this initiative as a stepping stone toward broader collaboration—between Seoul and Montreal, and ultimately between Korea and Canada,” added Frédéric Laurin, Senior Director, Partnerships and Development at Mila. “Korea’s expertise in applied technology and Canada’s leadership in foundational AI research present a unique opportunity to advance the AI landscape together.”
Ji-ah Kim, Manager of Global Cooperation at Seoul AI Hub, added, "Mila has been a truly invaluable partner throughout this program. We also deeply appreciate the continued support from the Quebec Government, which has played an essential role in making this collaboration possible."
