Matt Kusner, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer and Software Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal and a Core Academic Member at Mila, has been appointed as a Canada CIFAR AI Chair.
He will continue his fundamental research in artificial intelligence, examining critical issues around privacy and regulation, addressing the rights and responsibilities for both the public and model developers. His work also explores the foundations of machine learning evaluation as well as the application of machine learning for the benefit of society.
Three Mila Members Renewed
CIFAR has also confirmed the renewal of the Canada CIFAR AI Chairs for three Mila Academic Members.
This recognition highlights the outstanding work of Golnoosh Farnadi, Guillaume Lajoie, and Guy Wolf, whose expertise and contributions to the advancement of artificial intelligence are widely acknowledged and celebrated.
The Canada CIFAR AI Chairs program remains a cornerstone of the Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence Strategy. The program aims to recruit the world’s top AI researchers to Canada, while also supporting talent already based here. It provides affiliated university professors with stable, specialized funding to stimulate cutting-edge research programs and help train the next generation of leaders in artificial intelligence in Canada.
