GENEVA & MONTREAL – September 24, 2026 – Neurosoft Bioelectronics and Mila are pleased to announce a new partnership to accelerate the development of AI-powered neural interfaces for patients with severe neurological conditions. Neurosoft is a neurotechnology company developing safe and scalable brain-computer interfaces, while Mila is one of the world's leading AI research institutes. Through the partnership, Neurosoft joins Mila's industry network, gaining access to its AI research community to advance this work.

Neurosoft's proprietary BCI platform leverages stretchable and minimally invasive technology to advance scalable brain interfaces that reduce risks, while integrating artificial intelligence to extract actionable insights from brain recordings. Alongside its BCI hardware, the company is building a cortical foundation model trained on large-scale neural recordings, analogous to how large language models are trained on vast text corpora, with the goal of better understanding how neural recordings translate into various brain functions.

Compared to text corpora, however, brain data remains many orders of magnitude scarcer. Overcoming this bottleneck is the defining technical challenge in building foundation models for the brain: it demands sample-efficient algorithms that learn more from less data, and models that build knowledge of the brain directly into how they learn. Mila is home to one of the highest concentrations of world-class researchers working on exactly these problems, whether through approaches inspired by the brain or discovered in applied mathematics.

Through this partnership, Neurosoft Bioelectronics will expand its access to Mila's AI research community and its network of close to 2,000 researchers and professionals, supporting the advancement of its Neuro AI program. The collaboration aligns with Mila's core focus on AI and Health and its mission to build AI that serves society.

"Building AI that understands the brain is one of the most demanding tests we can set for sample-efficient learning, and it’s exactly the kind of challenge our research community was built to tackle. Neurosoft’s partnership gives our NeuroAI researchers a direct path from foundational algorithms to real-world clinical impact. It’s a strong example of what our work around AI and Health is designed to do: connect deep research with solutions that can ultimately make a difference for patients."

— Stéphane Létourneau, Executive Vice President, Mila

"A cortical foundation model has the potential to do for BCIs what large language models did for natural language processing: unlock capabilities that scale across patients, conditions, and clinical contexts in ways that current algorithms simply cannot. Partnering with Mila gives us the AI research depth to actively pursue this vision. For Neurosoft, this marks an important step toward building a platform that doesn't just record the brain, but can understand it and translate that understanding into better outcomes for patients."

— Nicolas Vachicouras, PhD, CEO & Co-Founder, Neurosoft Bioelectronics

"This partnership formalizes something we've already seen work in practice. Our ongoing collaboration with Prof. Guillaume Lajoie's lab at Mila has been one of the most productive scientific partnerships Neurosoft has engaged in. By combining our neural recording platform with Mila's AI expertise, we are working towards better understanding various brain processes. Joining Mila's network now gives us the resources and community to extend that momentum towards a broad range of cortical applications."

— Nicolas Gninenko, PhD, Neuroscientist, Neurosoft Bioelectronics

About Neurosoft Bioelectronics

Neurosoft Bioelectronics is decoding the brain at scale. The company builds soft, stretchable neural interfaces that conform to the surface of the cortex: capturing activity across entire brain networks without penetrating tissue, through a minimally invasive procedure rather than open surgery. By making large-scale cortical recording safe and routine, Neurosoft generates the high-quality brain data needed to train foundation models that translate neural activity into movement, speech, perception, and beyond. Spun out of EPFL and based in Geneva and New York, the company has advanced its technology from the lab into first-in-human clinical studies in the US and Europe. Learn more at neurosoft-bio.com.
