Montreal, December 11, 2025 – Mila is thrilled to announce that the Summer School in Responsible AI and Human Rights will take place in Latin America for the very first time, gathering participants from all around the world in Mexico City, Mexico from May 17 to 22, 2026.
Hosted outside of Montreal for the first time, the 2026 edition reflects a deepened commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and international collaboration by bringing together participants, researchers, and practitioners from all continents to address the pressing challenges at the intersection of responsible AI and human rights.
Mila is proud to partner with IVADO, a Montreal-based AI research consortium, and CINVESTAV, Mexico’s leading public research center for advanced studies, to bring to life this exciting new edition that promises a rich, cross-cultural exchange of ideas.
Under the continued scientific direction of Catherine Régis, Professor of Law at Université de Montréal, Associate Academic Member at Mila, and Director of Social Innovation and International Policies at IVADO, the Summer School will offer an intensive 5-day program featuring sessions led by renowned experts, practical workshops, and collaborative projects. Participants will explore key themes such as AI governance, ethics, legal frameworks, and the socio-technical dimensions of AI.
The curriculum will offer a dynamic blend of theoretical learning, practical tools, and skill-building opportunities. Designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific diplomacy, the program will address real-world challenges and regulatory frameworks. As always, the Summer School will offer a limited number of scholarships to help ensure the participation of diverse voices from around the world.
