Professor David Rolnick, Core Academic Member at Mila and Canada CIFAR AI Chair, has been named a 2024 AI2050 Early Career Fellow by Schmidt Sciences.
The Schmidt Sciences AI2050 fellowship program recognizes researchers at the forefront of AI whose research addresses some of humanity's greatest challenges. This year, 25 scholars were selected to receive up to $12 million in funding to advance AI research for societal benefit.
Professor Rolnick's work focuses on applying machine learning to combat climate change. As an AI2050 fellow, Professor Rolnick will develop innovative AI-based superresolution tools to generate accurate, high-resolution climate and weather data from low-resolution inputs. This project aims to meet global data needs and alleviate geographical inequities, particularly benefiting regions in the Global South where high-quality sensor data may be scarce.
Congratulations to Professor Rolnick on this prestigious fellowship and his impactful research at the intersection of AI and climate science.
