AI is evolving rapidly, sparking as much fascination as concern. Mila is launching After Mila, a series of community meetups designed to demystify current events and help you transition from mistrust to informed vigilance.

At each meetup, a Mila researcher and a field expert (doctor, artist, social worker, etc.) will engage with the public to discuss the tangible impact of AI on our daily lives.

For our inaugural session, we are tackling one of the most pressing issues of the digital age: disinformation. The number of deepfakes (AI-generated fake content) on our screens has exploded with ten times more content circulating now than in 2023.

We've seen thousands of people in Dublin waiting for a Halloween parade that never existed. A fake robocall from Joe Biden discouraging voters from heading to the polls and celebrities considering trademarking their likeness to protect themselves from identity theft.

What are the daily risks? How can we separate fact from fiction and take action to protect ourselves?

Join our experts for a conversation in a friendly, casual atmosphere:

  • Jean-François Godbout, Professor of Political Science at UdeM, Associate Academic Member at Mila, and specialist in AI-driven disinformation
  • Pascal Lapointe, Editor-in-Chief of Agence Science-Presse and the "Rumor Detector" column
