AI is advancing rapidly, causing as much fascination as it does concern. Mila is launching the After Mila citizen meetings to demystify current events and give you the keys to move from mistrust to informed vigilance.
During each meeting, a Mila researcher and a field expert will discuss the concrete impact of AI in our daily lives with you. Following our session on disinformation, we are now tackling an urgent global issue: the environmental and climate impact of AI.
Generating a single image consumes, on average, as much energy as fully charging a smartphone.
Submitting a prompt to a chatbot requires up to 30 times more energy than a standard web search.
Writing a 100-word email using generative AI can require nearly 500 milliliters of water just for server cooling.
