Biography

Catherine Régis is a full professor of law at Université de Montréal and the Canada Research Chair in Collaborative Culture in Health Law and Policy. She is also an associate academic member of Mila – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, where she holds a Canada CIFAR AI Chair, and the director of Social Innovation and International Policy at IVADO.

Régis is involved in a number of international initiatives, including the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI), where she serves as an expert member for their Responsible AI Working Group, a group she also co-chaired from 2021 to 2023. She leads HAICU (Human-centred AI+ for/by Colleges and Universities) for the U7+ Alliance, a coalition of more than fifty universities from around the world. Régis helped draft the Montréal Declaration on Responsible AI as a member of its scientific committee. Her work focuses on global AI governance, the regulation of AI in health care systems, and the integration of human rights approaches in AI.
