Promoting underrepresented groups in AI research
In November 2020, Professor Kyunghyun Cho, a Mila postdoctoral fellow alumnus, donated $35,000 to the institute to promote equity and diversity by awarding scholarships to incoming female
PhD students and postdoctoral fellows from designated underrepresented regions within the field of AI.
Prof. Cho recognizes the difficulty and stress involved for international students to relocate and pursue their academic dreams. This difficulty only increases for students who belong to underrepresented groups in AI due to their gender or nationality.
Through these awards, Prof. Cho aims to give incoming students some financial relief by providing them with additional funding upon their arrival to Montreal.
Mila is committed to supporting equity, diversity and inclusion in its research endeavors.
