As part of the 2021-2022 budget unveiling in the spring of 2021, the federal government reiterated its commitment to building for the future by supporting innovation and entrepreneurs. With that comes its latest announcement confirming the launch of the second phase of the Pan-Canadian Artificial Intelligence strategy (PCAIS). Formalized on June 22, 2022, the renewed strategy includes $60M over five years for Canada’s three national AI institutes (Mila in Montreal, Amii in Edmonton and the Vector Institute in Toronto) to “help translate AI research into commercial applications and grow the capacity of businesses to adopt these new technologies.”
