AI Redefined Announces Partnership with Mila to Foster Research on Human-AI Collaboration

MONTREAL — AI Redefined, Inc. (AIR), an artificial intelligence (AI) company, is delighted to announce that it has formed a partnership with Mila, the world’s largest deep learning institute. This partnership will continue AIR’s mission of supporting the next generation of research on human-AI collaboration, including in its home city of Montreal.

Since its founding in 2017, AIR has focused on making human-machine collaboration more accessible by providing opportunities for humans to contribute richer contextual knowledge to AI training. AIR’s Cogment platform, which is available to developers and researchers and powers a growing range of commercial applications, supplies such context by enabling the use of intelligence ecosystems. In these ecosystems, humans and AI agents can learn together in endless configurations and in real time. Benefits of Cogment include explainability; faster training; greater optionality; and modular learning, which can lead to reduced compute usage.

“AI Redefined is proud to be part of the Montreal AI ecosystem. Our partnership with Mila will enable us to help fuel new research to democratize important AI training methods like multi-agent reinforcement learning – all in our home city,” noted Dorian Kieken, the President of AIR.

This partnership builds on AIR’s track record of supporting researchers. For example, AIR works with the Chandar Research Lab (CRL), led by Mila Professor Sarath Chandar, on training reinforcement learning agents alongside humans in cooperative multi-agent environments, with the broader goal of having agents collaborate with humans. Cogment also facilitates AI training alongside multiple humans simultaneously, which has been an additional focus of AIR-CRL research.

“Mila’s strategic collaboration with AI Redefined will allow some of our researchers to continue to explore exciting new avenues with the Cogment platform,” said Stéphane Létourneau, Executive Vice President of Mila. “We are delighted to work with AI Redefined to foster reinforcement learning research with human knowledge in the loop.”

AIR’s research goals for 2022 include continuing to work on teacher and student roles in multi-actor training curricula as well as on defining reference tasks and evaluation methods for human-AI trust and explainability. AIR’s partnership with Mila will create even more momentum toward these goals.

About AI Redefined (AIR):

AI Redefined (AIR) is a company that builds software to foster continuous learning between humans and machines. AIR has released Cogment, the world’s first open-source platform to provide the means to design, train, and deploy complex intelligence ecosystems that mix humans and AI agents of various kinds. Cogment enables humans and AI to explore context and learn together across real-world and simulated environments in real time. Cogment supports commercial applications in areas like urban mobility, logistics, and renewable energy. For more information, please visit https://ai-r.com.
