The Mila community gathered on November 26 at Université de Montréal’s campus MIL to mark a milestone in the career of Yoshua Bengio, founder and scientific director of Mila.
Indeed, on March 27, 2019, Yoshua Bengio was awarded the prestigious AM Turing Award, considered the "Nobel of Computing" - and awarded by The Association for Computer Machinery of New York, alongside his colleagues Geoffrey Hinton and Yann LeCun, for their work as "fathers of the deep learning revolution". Thanks to 30 years of work in Montreal and an incredible leadership, Yoshua Bengio has inspired hundreds of collaborators, making Montreal a global pole for scientific advances that inspires innovation and the development of AI for the benefit of all.
This special evening brought various AI actors from Canada and the United States together; professors, students, partners and collaborators were present to celebrate Yoshua Bengio's central role in the recent advances in computer science, but also in the development of the Quebec AI ecosystem.
It is in an atmosphere of celebrations, but also of reflection, that Yoshua Bengio shared his perspective on the future of AI for the next decade, as part of an exclusive conference, animated and sponsored by the magic of Moment Factory, as well as Manuvie, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Ernst & Young and Solotech.
The Mila team wishes to thank all the guests, partners and sponsors for their participation in a memorable evening and for their involvement in this joint mission of scientific advances inspired by Yoshua Bengio. The profits generated by the event will be used to support and propel ethical and social projects led by Mila researchers, which are regrouped under the AI for Humanity entity.
