Valérie Pisano, President and Chief Executive Officer and Yoshua Bengio, Scientific Director of Mila – Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, are pleased to announce the appointment of Joumana Ghosn as Director – Technology Transfer. She joins Mila with more than 20 years of experience in deep learning, both in applied research and industrial projects.
Joumana obtained a PhD in Computer Science (machine learning) from the Université de Montréal in 2002 under the supervision of Professor Yoshua Bengio. She then developed expertise in natural language understanding especially at Nuances Communications where she worked with a team of deep learning researchers dedicated to creating virtual assistants.
In addition to its academic training and fundamental research focus, Mila’s mission is to contribute to Quebec’s economic development through technology transfer and business innovation. Joumana’s mandate will consist of developing Mila’s support and coaching of start-ups and SMEs, and initiating industrial research projects in collaboration with companies. Joumana and her technology transfer team will also be responsible for professional training programs and will be involved in numerous events to represent Mila within the Quebec ecosystem.
Founded by Professor Yoshua Bengio of the Université de Montréal, Mila rallies researchers specializing in the field of artificial intelligence. Recognized globally for its significant contributions to the field of deep learning, Mila has distinguished itself in the areas of natural language processing, machine translation, object recognition and generative models. Since 2017, Mila is the result of a partnership between the Université de Montréal, McGill University, École Polytechnique de Montréal and HEC Montréal.
