Professor in Machine Learning, Département de sciences de la décision – HEC Montréal

The Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal is seeking highly qualified applicants for a tenure?track or tenured position in machine learning beginning June 1, 2020. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The chosen candidate may be eligible to receive a Canada CIFAR AI Chair, depending on their research profile.

The Département de sciences de la décision (in French) offers a stimulating environment with 28 professors and 4 full-time lecturers. Department faculty specialize in Financial Engineering, Optimization and Data Science. They are members of internationally recognized research centers (CIRRELTCRMGERADMILA), and contribute to the mission of the IVADO institute for data-driven value creation.

HEC Montréal is a world-class business school. The School offers undergraduate programs as well as graduate degrees: an MBA, an EMBA, an MSc and a PhD. Courses are mainly taught in French but also in English and Spanish. The MSc program offers several specializations including: Data Science and Business Analytics, Business Intelligence, and Financial Engineering. The PhD program is offered jointly with McGill University, Concordia University and UQÀM, and includes specializations in Data Science, Financial Engineering, and Management Science.


Candidates must:

  • Have completed or nearly completed a PhD in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Have demonstrated experience with machine learning methodology through publications at top conferences and/or journals in the field and ideally be interested in applications of machine learning. Candidates with research interests at the intersection of machine learning and another field are also encouraged to apply.
  • Show excellent potential in research, an aptitude to supervise students at the MSc and PhD levels, and a desire to engage in one of our research groups.
  • Show excellent potential in teaching with demonstrated communication skills in either French or in English and a clear interest in becoming competent in both.
