Nicolas Gontier

I am a PhD student affiliated with the Mila insitute at Polytechnique Montreal. Supervised by professor Christopher Pal, I also work with professor Joelle Pineau. My research focuses on Natural Language Processing (NLP). I am especially interested in usefully representing knowledge inferred by long documents, and language generation systems such as conversational agents. My favorite tools to study these questions are deep learning and reinforcement learning.

I’m also concerned about other topics such as AI in medicine, AI Ethics, theoretical physics, neuroscience, computational biology, software development, mobile apps development, computer security, and anything that is related to multimedia (3D animations, movie making, music).

I obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science in association with the Reasoning and Learning Lab at McGill University, in 2018. Being supervised by Joelle Pineau, my research focused on dialogue systems. Along with my friend and collaborator Koustuv Sinha, we built a chatbot able to discuss new’s paragraphs related to any topic as part of the 2017 ConvAI challenge.
I obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science from McGill University in 2016.
