Nicolas Gontier

Student Ph.D., École Polytechnique de Montréal

Nicolas is a Ph.D. student at Polytechnique Montreal. Supervised by professor Christopher Pal, he also works with professor Siva Reddy. His research lies at the intersection of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Reasoning (he likes to call it “Natural Language Reasoning”). He is especially interested in representing knowledge in large language models, and language generation systems such as conversational agents.

Nicolas is also concerned about other topics such as AI in medicine, AI Ethics, theoretical physics, neuroscience, computational biology, software development, mobile apps development, computer security, and anything that is related to multimedia (3D animations, movie making, music).

Nicolas obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science in association with the Reasoning and Learning Lab at McGill University, in 2018. Being supervised by Joelle Pineau, his research focused on dialogue systems. Along with Koustuv Sinha, they built a chatbot able to discuss new’s paragraphs related to any topic as part of the 2017 ConvAI challenge.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science from McGill University in 2016.
