Kory Mathewson

Kory Mathewson is a Senior Research Scientist with Alphabet’s DeepMind and an Associate Industry Member at Mila – the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute in Montreal, Canada. His research focuses on understanding intelligent interaction between humans and machines. Two recent works explore how humans and machines collaborate and how professional writers co-write creatively alongside language models. Kory is also a Lab Scientist with the Creative Destruction Lab at the University of Toronto, where he supports massively scalable science-based startup ventures and companies. He also serves as a Special Advisor to the National Research Council of Canada. Kory holds a Ph.D. in Computing Science (2019) from the University of Alberta, with funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and affiliations with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii). He also holds an M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering (2014) and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (2010) from the University of Alberta.
